Popocatepeti Sunrise is a work by the Dutch master Pat Andrea (The Hague, The Netherlands, 1942). Internationally acclaimed, he is one of the foremost figures of European magical realism and new figurative iconography. His paintings combine classical features with stark neo-expressionism, interweaving sexuality, fear and desire to produce playful yet disturbingly intense images. Andrea's creations explore eroticism and violence in raw but delicate depictions, dramas about everyday human emotions. As he explains, he thinks that artists "are here to paint a world that we cannot see, the world of ideas, the world of dreams, the things that do not exist. That is our function".
