Antoni Trias Pujol (1892-1970), professor of medicine at the University of Salamanca and a friend of Unamuno, met him in 1920 through Dr. Cañizo, during his time as Professor of Surgery at the University of Salamanca. Upon his return to Barcelona in 1927, he modernized the Surgery Department at the Hospital Clínic, where he practiced. He was one of the finest surgeons of his era. At the end of the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in Bogotá.
