Portrait of John Haslett, M.D.

Eliab Metcalfca. 1822

Brooklyn Museum

Brooklyn Museum
Brooklyn, New York City, United States

This object is a disassembled miniature consisting of: the portrait (watercolor on an oval sheet of ivory glued to paper), backing paper cut from the artists business card, and the metal liner and glass lens which were part of the now-lost original housing (most likely, a locket). There is a faint graphite tracing of the sitters head and an illegible inscription on the verso of the portrait.
