Oil painting; illustrating two boys, one sitting at a desk point at text of a book, while the other stands behind him with his arm around the other and the other hand inside his coat; there is a bookshelf behind the boy standing, curtains seen above them and a carved wooden arch (much like the one in 1935.2.82); This painting has been executed on a softwood panel of tripartate construction. The main body of the panel is composed of a single radial cut board, oriented so that the grain runs vertically. At the top and bottom of this main panel, narrow boards of similar material and cut have been affixed with lap joints and secured by an adhesive that is probably animal glue. The grain of these boards runs perpendicular to that of the main panel. The board along the top is 2 1/4 inches wide and the width of the bottom board is 2 1/2 inches. The back edges of the panel have been beveled. A piece of wood 2 foot x 21 3/4 inches x 1/4 inch that serves as a makeshift cradle has been attached to the back of the panel with twelve screws. Painting is framed in a gilded ornate frame that attaches to a plastic-like box to cover the painting, this was placed on the panel by conservators, frame was one that came out of Hayes Presidential Center's collection
