There were plans to connect Seville, Huelva, and Lisbon via a ferry service for cars and passengers from the port of Huelva. The service, named Francisco Montenegro, was already running between Punta del Sebo and La Rábida, and the idea was to take advantage of the tourism that would be generated by the Universal Exhibition of Seville in 1929. However, the project ground to a halt due to a lack of interest as the exhibition drew to a close, and because it did not turn out to be very profitable.
