The first elections in 1989 were a crucial event on the Polish way to freedom. However, the election poster created by Piotr Babinski was ambiguous. A red thumb pointing down was meant to signify disapproval of the communists. The White thumb meant support for the political forces associated with the Solidarity movement. Rotating the poster by 180 degrees could change its meaning.
