Press cutting on the book “The Life and Times of Garcilaso” written for De la Torre by John and Jeannette Varner, a married couple who spent over 15 years researching the archives of Cordoba and Montilla with the invaluable assistance of José de la Torre y del Cerro, to whom the book was dedicated. Raúl Porras Barrenechea explains that “in 1935, Don Jose de la Torre y del Cerro completed his Cordoban research with the presentation -at the 1935 Seville Congress of Americanists- on a copious amount of documentation found by rummaging through the Cordoban cathedral protocols and documents on the period that was, until then, unknown, and frequently made up, of the life of Inca Garcilaso in Cordoba from 1591 to 1616. De la Torre y del Cerro included in his collection the documents discovered by Ramírez de Arellano and added some 120 more documents, comprising notarial and parochial acts.”
