Manuscript illustration of Santiago de Cárdenas (Callao, 1726 - Lima, 1766), a Peruvian sailor, hatter, machinist and inventor considered a forerunner of aviation.
The document presents the studies and observations of De Cárdenas about the anatomy and flight of birds, from which he proposes the construction of a machine for human flight.
In particular, we observe two scenes: the upper image shows a character lying on a surface, watching a group of birds in flight; while, in the lower image we see a standing character holding a longitudinal object through which he is observing a group of birds flying.
