The female figure, absorbed in her reading, contains all the characteristics of the formal research which is proper of Crocetti’s artworks: the study of the object which becomes gradually more marked until it becomes a all-round figure while the prospective plans get close to the observer’s eye (a ploy which comes directly from Donatello), the choice of a random subject deprived of any tinsel, something that makes everyday life feeling like mythology. Choosing to make rugged surfaces is a technical solution which permits to make the light gleam on the bronze material and make the volumes more soft and faded similarly to the lines of a chiaro-scuro drawing.
