In 1943 Eisenstein started to write his memoirs. They reconstructed the story of a good boy from Riga, the son of a high official and a rich woman who disliked his sheltered childhood. The book was a semi-fictional novel about himself, which the author called "Yo" (‘I’), in which he lived out his blatant narcissism.
