Luis Siret Cels, archaeologist of recognized international prestige, discovered, among others, the important deposits of Villaricos and Los Millares, located in this province of Almeria. This Belgian, born in 1860, came to Cuevas del Almanzora with 21 years as a mining engineer after graduating in Louvain. Its objective was to work in Sierra Almagrera since this mining preserve was in full exploitation. From these mining works derived their archaeological activities that so much prestige they reported and that so much light the knowledge about our prehistoric past. Of its mining activity have been traces documentales in the records of records of mines that are conserved in the Provincial Historical Archive of Almería. Provincial Management of Mines.
