Red salamander, Pseudotriton ruber

This salamander truly deserves its name! Its bright red colour warns predators of its highly potent skin poison. It lives in cool forests. The 10-20 cm-long animals have no lungs and only breathe through their skin. They catch their prey using their lightning-quick catapult tongue.
