Replica of Guane Clothing

Museo de Trajes de la Universidad de América

Museo de Trajes de la Universidad de América
Bogotá, Colombia

Replica of a traditional liquira or Guane clothing made from wool, woven and dyed in red with patrons, this piece of clothing would have been worn by tying it over the right shoulder, in case of cacique (Chiefs) it would have tied together using a golden broch.

This type of clothing was used during ritual and funerary practices, making it a mortuary attire used by a chief. Using natural dyes extracted from plants and vegetables of the region, the cloth was decorated with rollers or brushes, making shapes based on natural features of the land as part of the iconography, additionally mythological figures are also represented like the bird Sua.
