Rest of book burned and wet after fire in the National Library of Peru

Around the early hours of May 10, 1943, an atrocious fire began to consume the National Library of Peru. At the scene, several fire companies arrived, who received the warning in the early morning hours.
"(…) On its floor lay, in confusion, papers and pieces of shelves, furniture, floors and ceilings. The fire, by consuming the floors, by exposing the soil on the floor and by causing the collapse of entire rooms, had united, in monstrous alliance, with the water for the destruction of precious prints and manuscripts that lay soaked and in disorder.
