This apocryphal portrait of Miguel de Cervantes, erroneously attributed for some time to Juan de Jáuregui, has presided over the RAE assembly hall since 1911. He came to the corporation, the result of a donation, when Alejandro Pidal y Mon directed it. With the passage of time, the controversial work has become a false "authentic." It is the best-known image of the author of "Don Quixote."
