Risen Christ appears to the Mother

Marco Antonio Bassetti1620

Museo di Castelvecchio

Museo di Castelvecchio
Verona, Italy

The iconography finds its origin in the apocryphal gospels that tell the life of Mary at the time of her son's death and resurrection. The black background of the touchstone accentuates the idea of Christ's nocturnal appearance: a halo of light radiates from his head, the luminescent cloths stand out in the dark along with the banner of the Resurrection while Christ shares a touching moment of intimacy with his mother.
