Kalisz, Poland

This small face mask was created using the lost-wax casting technique. The facial features, including the high forehead, converging eyebrows, protruding eyes, nose, and full lips, as well as the cheeks and pointed, hair-covered beard, are distinctly outlined. The representation of monkey-like figures as part of the mask suggests its ritual and religious function.
The African collection at the Kalisz Regional Museum is connected to the exploratory travels of Stefan Szolc-Rogoziński, a traveler from Kalisz.
