Caricature of Rosa Amelia Cevasco, a worker representing the "Santa Rosa" shoe store who won the crown of the "Queens of Work" contest, organized by "La Crónica" newpaper. It is said that her candidacy obtained the surprising number of more than one million votes .
"La Crónica" newspaper, a Limean publication that circulated from 1912 to 1990, organized and promoted a beauty contest among Lima workers in the 1940s. This kind of activity was long-awaited by the working class community, inserted not only in the popular imagination but also in the political agenda. It was indicated that the Queen of work should be chosen "for her beauty, virtue and industriousness".
