The Abbey, probably founded by the Normans in the XI century, can be considered a Roman bastion between Greece and the southern Adriatic.
The reason why we chose to adopt it is due to the students' awareness of the cultural and historical identity of their territory, through the study of the artistic heritage. The Abbey, once held by the Franciscan friars, today a parish, welcomes numerous students attending the Secondary School of our Institute "Modugno Rutigliano Rogadeo".The church preserves the structure of the thirteenth century: a single nave with a square choir and a triumphal arch. On the original façade one can admire the rosette in a radial pattern.
The renovation of the internal part of the church at the end of the nineteenth century has preserved some original structures such as the ogival arch and the frescoed apse. The frescoes date back to the fifteenth century although some areas have layers of more remote epoch.
