Saint Peter

Unlike the figure of Christ, Saint Peter is portrayed in a more realistic way, his limbs aren’t visibly elongated as for the Nazarene, they’re well proportioned; the long beard and the stocky limbs (to notice the hands’ proportions) identify the character as a man of humble origins but chosen by Christ to persecute His work of salvation. The gesture of bringing his right hand to his chest has a double meaning: is both an act of humility towards the majesty of the Savior, but also a request of forgiveness for the fragility of his human nature and therefore, as a sinner.
