This version of the Illustrated Conduct of the Three Bonds (hereafter Illustrated Conduct) is a compilation of the most distinguished stories of exemplary individuals who lived in various periods of Chinese and Korean history. All are paragons of one of the three major Confucian virtues, i.e. filial piety, loyalty and chastity. The Illustrated Conduct with vernacular translation is generally classified according to three different typologies, based on orthographic characteristics and translation style of the vernacular part. The edition distributed during Seongjong’s reign is considered to be the first-edition weonganbon) type, the 1581 edition is considered a reprint edition (jungganbon), and there is also a 1730 reprint type.
