A Watercolor painting by the Italian artist Giulio Falzoni (1900-1979) titled, Santa Maria Novella, Florence, Interior in 1945. The Santa Maria Novella is a Gothic church in Florence Italy consecrated in 1420. Short Biography: Giulio Falzoni was born in Mantua in Italy in 1900. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and was a student of the Watercolorist, Plinio Nomellini (1866-1943). In 1940, after visiting London he became attracted to the British Watercolor style and also became a member of the London Society of Watercolorist. Falzoni is known as the last of the great Italian Watercolorists. This work was donated to the University of Pretoria by JA van Tilburg in 1980, who purchased the work from an exhibition held in South Africa of the works of Giulio Falzoni, as well as his son Giordano (1925-1998). The Van Tilburg donation to the University of Pretoria in 1980, included 125 Watercolors by Giulio Falzoni.
