The compositional choice made by Crocetti is in the sign of a contemporary reading of the medieval sculptural tradition. In line with the formal principles that extended from the Arch of Constantine to the Late Gothic period, the characters do not have a realistic scalar relationship, they do not occupy more or less space according to the greater distance of the perspective plan in which they are placed, but their size depends on the hierarchical importance they represent.
