Travelers stand talking to each other and folding their hands in prayer in front of a boulder in the middle of the highway. The samurai who has gone ahead also looks back at the boulder. The spirit of a pregnant woman murdered by mountain pirates possessed the boulder, which is called the night wailing rock because it emitted her weeping voice, and this led to discovery of her newborn child by the priest of a nearby temple.
