Schizachyrium scoparium (Michx.) Nash (little bluestem), ornamental grass, strong bunch-grass, basal shoots and stem nodes are bluish-purple, leaves are more slender and wiry than those of Big Bluestem. Other features include a somewhat flattened basal portion of stems and leaf sheaths and its slightly folded leaves and its lack of pubescence on both the sheaths and lower portion of leaves, height is 1.5-3.2'
