Seal effigy in walrus ivory

This little figure of a seal sunning itself on the ice gives an excellent idea of the accuracy with which the Inuit artists represented the animals they hunted. This naturalistic style is in distinct contrast to the more stylized working of the armless anthropomorphic figures that were intended for shamanistic use.
