SESHA SAYI: This is the form of Vishnu reclining on the five headed serpent, Anantha after creation. The form prior to creation is Adi-murti (See Sesha Narayana). In this form, the process of creation has already taken place with Lord Brahma already emanating from Lord Vishnu’s navel. Since Brahma emanates from the navel of Lord Vishnu, this form is also called Padmanabha.
This print from the Ravi Udaya FAL Press derived from a painting by Raja Ravi Varma depicts Sesha Sayi as blue in colour with four hands carrying the conch (shank), discus (chakra), mace (gadha) and a lotus. He is reclining on a five hooded serpent, Anantha. He is accompanied by Lakshmi. He is surrounded by Garuda, the eagle, Hanuman, Narad and a horse (Tumburu) playing a tambura.
