Lima, Peru

Scene composed of a woman from behind in a swimsuit made up of a blue dress and pants with white trim and a hat with a blue ribbon. To his left is a man with a naked torso and blue pants with the sleeves rolled up to the knees. Both are entering the sea. In the background you can see the sky and the sea, and on the left side a pier made of stones with a room made of thatch.
In addition to being a fisher's village, Chorrillos was recognized as a spa in the surroundings of Lima. Around the middle of the 19th century, a railway was built from Lima to Chorrillos, facilitating exchange and travel between these towns.
Inscription: "Eine lady mit einem swimsuit in chorillos ins bad gehend". It belongs to the album "1871 Praetoria" which contains 39 sheets of which 25 are watercolors and the remaining 14 illuminated lithographs. These images are an example of the nineteenth-century production of pictorial costumbrismo in Peru, a repertoire of typical characters -in this case from the city of Lima-, composed without much context, and rather characterized by their work and clothing.
