Shops in Yamanaka Station, Fujikawa, from the series The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido (Gyosho edition)

Kyuka village on the east side of the Fujikawa station was known in the Muromachi Period as Yamanaka station. It seems the area was famous for ropes and bags made of hemp; in the picture is a sign for “Yamanaka’s Famous Woven Hemp Ropes and Bags.”
