This signal baton, or “zai”, was used to signal between boats of the fishing fleet when fishermen were setting the nets for tai sea bream. The conductor of the fleet would stand upon the command boat and wave the zai.
Selected as a National Significant Tangible Folk Culture Asset.
Found in Naoshima,Kagawa-gun, Kagawa Prefecture.
