Simit is a sesame-crusted, circular leavened bread, which is one of the most popular street food in Istanbul since the Ottoman Period. The students in 'Turkish Local Cuisines' class at the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, Yeditepe University, do not only learn the processing steps of Simit, but they also learn the cultural backgrounds of the foods.
Today, Simit has an enormous place in people of Istanbul's daily life. Simit can be consumed at any time during the day. But especially people love to enjoy a Simit with tea, during a ferry trip in Bosphorus. Simit used to be consumed plain, but now it is sold with spread choices such as cheese or olive paste.
