During 1914-1915 Eisenstein filled many sketch books with these drawings. His style was inspired by Grandville (1803-1847), the French caricaturist admired as a proto-Surrealist for his grotesque images. Grandville placed his animals in familiar contemporary settings, furnished them with human gestures, fashionable accessories, and gave each a role in the vaudeville of modern life.On different card boards in French:
Hotel Noblesse
Boite aus Letters
Cartes postales
Bains
On the Ship U.N.
Signed: V 2
