This concept art is the one with which Venanzo Crocetti won the second place in the competition for Saint Peter's doors: this artwork presents a complex symbolic reading and it has many cultural references. The panel is divided in six squares, each one portrays a different episode from the history of the Holy Roman Church's foundation. Particularly, the narrative path which links the scenes together is the catholic doctrine of the Teaching Church and the Descending Church, namely the two parts of the believers who constitute the Holy Roman Church, namely those who are its legitimate pastors (the teaching clergy) and those who are part of it as baptized.
