In 1924 K. Mayer from Stuttgart got a patent for a simple version of the toy. E. Mieg from Schwenningen am Neckar bought the rights and improved the idea. The toy became popular during the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, when the German team including Fritz Walter became world champions.
