The unusual form of the so-called crown torque apparently held a special meaning for people 2 200 years ago. Again and again, such torques were deposited as offerings in moors. Decidedly less often, they were interred together with the deceased as grave gifts, like the specimen from Geesthacht, which also represents a regional variant.
