Sporting Clube Caminhense was founded on December 14, 1926. It became the 49th branch of Sporting Clube de Portugal in 1929, until 1952.
In the early days, Caminhense dedicated itself to football and tennis. Rowing emerged in the 1930s and it was in this modality that the club achieved its greatest national and international successes in the following decades. In 1939, the Caminhense team was National Champion in a 4-a-side shell on the Rio Lima track, winning for the first time the “Lisbon Cup”, a cup established in 1903. Caminhense rowers participated in the Olympic Games of 1948, 1960, and also in 1992 and 1996.
