Against a dark background, a fruit still life is set out on a table in a nice triangular composition, which is balanced by the dark niche on the left and the large black chest on the right. Besides the unusual glassware and a draped red velvet cloth, various subtropical fruits are arranged on a dish, including a pineapple, peaches, grapes and a cut melon. In the seventeenth century, these fruits would certainly not have been available to everyone, but they would have been enjoyed in the higher circles frequented by the painter. The depiction of the fresh pineapple is less convincing. The marble-topped table bearing this still life, and alongside which the hunting still lifes are arranged, is characteristic of Fromantiou’s oeuvre.
