A Dutch artist who has played a leading role in his country’s avant-garde artistic movement since the seventies, Peters’ work has always eschewed
the well-trodden path of the traditional. His career-long quest has opted for more alchemic principles, including intuition, spiritual inclinations, sexuality, and the conversion of knowledge into substance through creative strength. At first glance, the visual language of this series of brooches appears strikingly minimalist. A more studied gaze of these tomb-like metaphors suggests Peters wants each beholder to ponder much deeper questions. Made from silver and amber, these wearable sculptures are created around an idea of suction which draws the eye into its inner depths.
For the artist, overarching questions about birth, metamorphosis, and the sustenance of life are a way of giving his audience permission to lose oneself
in infinity.
