Born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in 1931. He joined the National Peiping Art College in 1948, graduated from the Department of Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1953, graduated from the Graduate School of Color Ink in 1955, and graduated from the Oil Painting Training Course of Maksimov, an expert of the Soviet Union in 1957. Since 1957, he has taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently the president of the Oil Painting Academy of the National Academy of Painting, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, honorary chairman of the Chinese Oil Painting Association and consultant of the Chinese Artists Association. Landscape painting is a key point of Zhan Jianjun's oil painting creation. In the field of landscape painting creation, he opened up a free, completely separated from the narrative, painters can more freely express their feelings and freely. His landscape paintings mainly praise the vitality of natural life, but also symbolically express the good sentiment and vitality of human life. "Gulangyu Sunshine Rock" was completed in Gulangyu, Xiamen, during the project of "Painters on both sides of the Straits Painting".
