Abbreviated to the nickname “Miya,” the Atsuta Shrine was beloved from ancient times. The gateway entrance on the right is Atsuta Shrine’s Hama Gateway. Via the Tokaido Highway from here to Kuwana the crossing is by boat across Ise Bay. This crossing was called the “seven ri crossing” for the distance of this sea travel (seven ri, or about 28 km.). The people running around pulling the horses are part of the “running of the horses” ceremony for dedicating the horses to the shrine.
