The axle box fitted onto the outside of the trailing wheel sub-chassis cradle

The trailing wheels are fitted inside the sub-chassis frame. The axle bearings are borne on a stout arragement outside the sub-chassis, which also supports the suspension springs, which are fitted to the main chassis.
