A painting of Goddess Lakshmi as she emanates from the Ocean of Milk. Hindu scriptures state she manifested as the Ocean of Milk was churned by the Devas (Gods) and the Asuras (Demons) in their quest to obtain Amruth (the nectar of immortality). As they churned the Ocean, many objects emerged- both beneficial and poisonous. Lakshmi was one of the last divinities to emerge of the churning Ocean. Here she is seen emerging from the Ocean of milk as her consort Lord Vishnu looks on.
