The Cathedral among the houses of Porto

This photograph, taken before 1939, shows the urban density of Pena Ventosa Hill, of medieval origin. Following the project to open up the Cathedral Yard, designed by Arménio Losa (1908-1988), the scale of the cathedral in relation to its original urban setting has been lost forever, and it has since become isolated and monumentalized.
