The artist was the most prominent representative of 19th century landscape painting in Silesia. During his studies in Frankfurt am Main, Dressler came into contact with the colony of artists in Kronberg, propagating the ideas of Pleinerism. Following in the footsteps of the group’s founders, Dressler started to paint in the open air and directly from nature. In this work depicting the landscape with realistic precision, the painter managed to capture the romantic atmosphere of a forest retreat.
