The festivities of São Martinho de Anta III

The festivities in his honour are held on 11th November, the day he is said to have been buried. Represented as a Bishop in the festivities of São Martinho de Anta, he wears the mitre on his head and the crosier in his left hand. Associated with the wine trades, he is the patron of wine producers. it is no coincidence that the following proverbs are related to him: “On St. Martin’s day fill up and place a stopper on your wine”; “On St. Martin’s day punch a hole in your barrel”; or “On St. Martin’s Day go to the cellar and taste your wine” or even “On St. Martin’s day wine must is good wine” (QUINTAS, 2011: 63-64; ICONOGRAFIA, 2014).
