Starting from the attitude of “playfulness” Artist You Ya-Rong gave food different possibilities. She refocused art back to the nature of “playfulness” and leaped away from the stereotypical forms and functions of things to actively and freely interpret the concept of “play”. The artist molds fruits into diverse shapes and offers the opportunity for the viewers to explore the relationships between shapes through the processes of replication, addition, and subtraction. At the same time, the process offers fun and interesting experiences- this is the best part of the creative process. “Play” the different shapes of fruits and “shape” the fruits into different forms. Does it look mechanical, crafty, or fashionable? Red skin replaces the original color of the fruit to steer the viewers’ focus to the changes in the shapes. And clustering presents the process of conceptualization- wild flow of ideas creates infinite good moods.
