Poster of the human body: the second layer. Sheet of paper attached to two wooden strips at the top and bottom. The body is illustrated within a double border of two black lines of differing thickness. The color illustrations show the human body, namely the digestive system: Principal viscera of the thoracic and abdominal cavities, Digestive organs, and The eight teeth of one half of the mandible. The illustrations are highly detailed and were beautifully and skillfully drawn. The shading also gives a sense of the size of the anatomy. In the early 20th century, illustrated posters made for teaching purposes were practically the only resource teachers had for explaining the human body and other scientific areas.
