The Lord who leaves

The first interpretation show that the skull is of a man between 35 or 50 years of age and his jaw is also carved. The scene on the engraving commemorates the death of the ruler and his rank is implied in the image. Headdress, ornaments and clothing of the character are elements related to power and death, which resemble those we see in the representations of Mixtec mortuary bundles. The carving on the jaw has the image of an opossum marsupial, which in the Mixtec culture is related to death. The scene shows the diminished lord with open arms entering deep into mother earth where she will receive him.
