The Märzfeld had actually been conceived for "Armed Forces Day," and was not yet finished in time for the last Party Rally in 1938. But the large construction site was well suited for the field exercises of the paramilitary Sturmabteilung (SA). By war's end, only 11 of the 24 towers planned to rise on the Märzfeld had actually been built. Demonstrating military strength was an important propaganda objective at the Nazi Party Rallies held at the Rally Grounds in Nuremberg from 1933 to 1938.
