There was a time when language was direct, word and thing were united, regardless of interpretation, comment, exegesis or hermeneutics, respecting a natural order of similarities. There came a time, however, when writing came to dominate, not only as a vehicle of language, but as a signifier in itself, amenable to analysis for understanding. In the work "A Prosa do Mundo", the artist Lígia Borba, renowned ceramist, points with the polyester resin the world of interpretation, signifier and meaning, taking as title of her work the second chapter of the work of Michel Foucault, in the work: "As Palavras e as Coisas".
